This flood restoration job was classified as Class 3, Category 3 water damage. Class 3 denoting flooding from above, which saturated the ceiling, walls and flooring below. Category 3, signifies that the water was grossly contaminated and possibly highly toxic. Category 3 Water, may contain raw sewage, pesticides, heavy metals or toxic organic substances. Immediate water damage restoration in this instance is essential to the health and well being of the occupants.
Flood Clean Up
In this instance, a 4” drainage line cracked and with every flush of the toilette contaminated water poured through the walls and down 3 stories where it was trapped for and undetermined length of time in a first level ceiling. The plumbing leak was discovered when the trapped water reached and began to drip through light fixture in the ceiling. Thorough flood clean up required.
Our initial concern was the possibility of electric shock, requiring that we shut off the circuit breaker serving the soaked electrical fixture. We carefully drained the ceiling by drilling pilot holes and catching several gallons in containers.
Flood Damage Restoration
The need for timely water damage restoration on this job was of the utmost importance, as waste line water spills are grossly contaminated and excessive moisture trapped within confined poorley ventilated spaces will result in dangerous mold growth. Immediate flood clean up and decontamination are essential to mitigate further damage and protect the health of the property and its occupants.
Water Damage Restoration
Once the trapped water was drained we opened the ceiling on the first level and both ceiling and wall in a second level bathroom giving us access to all saturated building materials enclosed within the walls. Once the affected materials were removed and discarded, flood damage restoration began with the liberal application of Benefect anti-microbial to thoroughly decontaminate all flood clean up areas.
Following decontamination, air scrubbers were deployed to capture any airborne particulate matter prior to activating air movers and dehumidifiers. We positioned dehumidifiers working in conjunction with air movers on all three levels of the home, strategically placed in contained areas near the flood damage restoration areas for maximum effectiveness. The excessive saturation required 4 days to achieve dry standard.
